Trezor.io/start — Quick & Simple Setup Guide
This page explains how to get started with a Trezor hardware wallet using the official start page at trezor.io/start. The language here is simple and direct so you can follow each step safely. Read each step before you act, keep your recovery words private, and never share them.
Before you begin
Make sure you have your Trezor device (Model One or Model T), a computer with a modern browser, and a USB cable (or adapter) if needed. Only use the official website link above when instructed. Do not install software from unknown sources.
Step 1 — Open trezor.io/start
On your computer, open a browser and go to trezor.io/start. That page will detect your device and guide you through the correct app to use (Trezor Suite or the web-based flow). Follow on-screen prompts and allow the site to connect to the device when asked.
Step 2 — Connect the device
Plug your Trezor into the computer using the USB cable. The device screen will turn on and show a welcome message. Confirm the device model shown on-screen matches the model you have. This helps prevent tampered devices.
Step 3 — Install or open Trezor Suite
If prompted, download the official Trezor Suite desktop app or use the recommended web app. The official site will link to the correct download. Install the app and open it. The app will guide you through the steps below with clear buttons and device prompts.
Step 4 — Set up a new wallet or recover
- If this is a new device choose "Create new wallet".
- If you already have a seed phrase choose "Recover wallet".
- Follow the device screen to write down the recovery words in the exact order shown.
Use a pen and paper for the recovery phrase. Do not store it digitally (no pictures, no cloud notes). Keep the paper in a safe place.
Step 5 — Secure your PIN
Trezor will ask you to set a PIN code. Choose a PIN you can remember but is not easily guessable. Never share your PIN with anyone. The PIN protects access to the device if it is lost or stolen.
Step 6 — Verify firmware and device
The Suite or start page will check your device firmware. If an update is needed, follow the on-screen instructions to update. Always verify on the device screen that messages match what the app shows before approving.
Step 7 — Add accounts and coins
After setup, you can add cryptocurrency accounts (Bitcoin, Ethereum, and others). The Suite shows supported coins and how to add them. You can receive funds by sharing a receiving address, or send by verifying the details on your Trezor screen and approving the transaction there.
Simple safety tips
- Never share your recovery seed or PIN with anyone.
- Only use links from trezor.io and official channels.
- Keep your recovery phrase offline and in a secure place (two copies in different places is a common practice).
- Be careful with phishing sites and fake downloads; always confirm the URL and certificate in your browser.
What to do next
After setup, explore the Suite dashboard to view balances, transactions, and portfolio performance. Consider enabling optional privacy features if you need them, and regularly check for firmware and Suite updates to stay secure.
